US FIRST, founded in 1989, is an organization offering technology oriented competitions for youth in America. Its name means, “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” The FIRST competitions go beyond only developing science and technology interests and proficiency, but also equip participants with the skills needed for leadership, for self-confidence, and for life. FIRST was started with a purpose to “inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.” It has succeeded in accomplishing this goal in hundreds of schools across the United States.
