In Memory of Doug Buhr, Our Friend and Hero

June 29, 1949 - October 13, 2006

There are always certain people within the community that make a difference to everyone they come in contact with.  These people are few and far between.  Their spirit of great love and compassion is only given to those of God's children who will use it for a greater good.  In the Elliot family one man had an abundance of this spirit.  He was a man of selflessness, love, compassion, peace, patience, kindness, joy and generosity.  This man was named Douglas Leonard Buhr.

Doug's involvement at Jim Elliot began in 1999 when his daughter, Sarah, began attending JECHS.  Even after his daughter graduated, he continued to be a huge part of our school.  He was on the Jim Elliot Board and was instrumental in the starting of the robotics team. Doug had so much faith in the team, that the team decided to name the robot after him.  Doug was the man that everyone I knew called their best friend.  He was fun loving and even rode his motorcycle into the church sanctuary.

Doug loved the Lord, Israel, his wife Freddie and daughter Sarah.  As a hockey player Doug was known for his fighting abilities.  His views on robotics mirrored those of Dean Kamen, the Founder of US FIRST Robotics.  He loved to watch the competitions and as an engineer felt we needed to train more engineers and scientists.

Doug will always be loved and sorely missed!
