We are currently preparing our robot for the 2009 FIRST robot competition.
This year's game is called
LUNACY is played on a 54' x 27' low
friction field. Robots are equipped with slippery wheels and payload trailers.Other game pieces include 3 types of “Orbit Balls”: Moon Rocks, Empty Cells,
or Super Cells.
Two three-team robot
alliances collect and score Orbit Balls in
the opposing teams' trailers. However, it's not just the robots that are participating. Human players are positioned
around the perimeter of the arena and
can score from their stations.
Robots are independently active during the
first 15 seconds of play, and remote controlled
for the remaining 2 minutes.
Before the game begins, each team can load up their robot with as many as 7 Moon Rocks to shoot with.Scoring trailers begin
each match empty.
Human layers are equipped with 20
Moon Rocks, minus the number they load
into their robot. They are also equipped with a certain number of Empty
Cells and Super Cells determined by the
outcome of their previous match. If a
team has not yet played a match, the
human player receives 4 Empty Cells
and 2 Super Cells.
When scored in the opposing teams' trailers, Moon Rocks and Empty Cells are worth 2 points and Super Cells are worth
15 points. Super Cells must be "activated”
before they can be played. Activation
occurs when a robot delivers an Empty
Cell from their Outpost to their Fueling
Station. Empty Cells can be delivered
throughout the match but Super Cells may
only be played during the last 20 seconds
of a match.
Other Recent Events:
Our robot and team was featured on FOX 40 News twice on January 23rd, 2009. They loved our spunk and the fact that we are a "David and Goliath" story, bceause we are such a small school but have won so many times. They commented on our quality and dedication, and also on the fact that we have ladies on our team. They loved our group and hoped to see us in the spotlight again soon.
